PNG Lewas Compete For 2025 ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy

Port Moresby, PNG: The Papua New Guinea national women’s team, PNG Lewas have returned to PNG after the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy 2025 hosted in Bangkok, Thailand from 20-30 November.

According to the latest ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy points table, PNG sits fifth on the table with 8 points from seven matches and a positive Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.026, keeping them in competitive contention despite the tight race among the top teams.

PNG won four matches out of the seven matches:

1. PNG vs Thailand, match 5 – Friday 21 November: PNG won by 8 runs, player of the match – Pauke Siaka
2. PNG vs Netherlands, match 15 – Tuesday 25 November: PNG won by 8 runs, player of the match – Henao Thomas
3. PNG vs Namibia, match 24 – Friday 28 November: PNG won by 1 run, player of the match – Pauke Siaka
4. PNG vs Tanzania, Match 27 – Sunday 30 November: PNG won by 20 runs, player of the match – Henao Thomas

PNG team finished their campaign with 4 wins in 7 matches, 8 points in total. The team is thrilled to register wins against Thailand and Netherlands, who are part of the T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.

Top Batters in the campaign are Brenda Tau (167 at 84.34), Hollan Doriga (126 at 122.33), Henao Thomas (101 at 73.19), getting more points. The Top Bowlers during the matches were Pauke Siaka (13 at 4.35), Henao Thomas (9 at 4.84).

Captain Branda Tau said, “The team has played well. I am proud of how far the team has come, the fighting spirit and the mentality of not giving up when the match is hard.”

“It was a great and challenging experience. Of course, in every tournament we are still learning, improving and challenging ourselves as individuals and as a team. But yes, the fight and comebacks on the field displayed by the girls were outstanding and at the end of the day, it was teamwork and team effort that got us through each match,” she added.

She said, “We are all happy we are back home with our families.”

PNG Lewas are now in preparation and will travel later this month for practice matches in Australia, before leaving for Nepal for the Global Qualifier on 11th-12th February 2026.

League Points Table:
Thailand currently leads the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy points table after seven matches, sitting at the top with 10 points and the best NRR of +1.362. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) also has 10 points and a strong NRR of +1.278, placing them second on the ladder.

The Netherlands is close behind in third position, also on 10 points, with an NRR of +0.987, followed by Scotland in fourth, likewise tied on 10 points but with a lower NRR of +0.359.

Uganda is placed sixth with 4 points and an NRR of –1.040, while Namibia (7th) and Tanzania (8th) round out the standings with 2 points each and net run rates of –1.345 and –1.649, respectively.

Cricket Papua New Guinea congratulates the team for their great representation on the global sporting stage and looks forward to support the team on their next tour which is to Australia for practice matches before heading off to Nepal.
