Oceania Fencing Confederation Update

April – December 2025 has been a busy period for the Oceania Fencing Confederation, with two very successful OFC Championships held during this time:

  • 12 -15 July 2025: OFC Cadet (Under 17) Championships in Sydney saw a large entry from Australia and New Zealand with a high quality of fencing
  • 25 -27 October 2025: OFC Senior (Open Age) Championships in Auckland – this was a record-sized competition for New Zealand with fencers from a number of countries from Oceania and around the world.

OFC partnered once again to conduct an online Coaching Course with Global Fencing Masters (GFM) in the discipline of Sabre. 20 coaches from Australia, New Zealand and Guam worked for five months to complete the Technical and Pedagogical sessions, with assessments planned for early 2026.

The OFC Regional Development Officer (RDO) travelled to Guam in May 2025 to assist with the conduct of the first official tournament for the Guam Fencing Federation and some coaching assistance for the keen coaches who keep the GFF functioning. Whilst in Guam the RDO joined past President Helen Smith at the ONOC and OSFO General Assemblies.

OFC President Andrea Chaplin has been busy representing the OFC at a number of key meetings with the International Fencing Federation (FIE) throughout the period.
