The Federation of International Touch (FIT), in collaboration with Tonga Touch, is undertaking a series of development activities in Tonga from 17–22 August 2026, as part of a shared commitment to supporting the continued growth and strengthening of Touch across the Kingdom.
The programme brings together players, coaches, referees and local stakeholders through grassroots development sessions and introductory coaching and refereeing clinics. It also provides an opportunity to identify and encourage emerging technical officials who can contribute to the future development and delivery of Touch in Tonga.
The programme is being supported by FIT Oceania Commission Lead Ralphen Viane, working alongside the Tonga Touch National Touch Organisation, with an emphasis on supporting local capability and Tonga Touch’s development priorities.

FIT acknowledges the leadership and commitment of Ms Fehoko Tuivai and the Tonga Touch NTO Executive, whose initiative and engagement have been important in coordinating the programme and creating opportunities to further develop Touch on island.
FIT and Tonga Touch also gratefully acknowledge the support of local stakeholders, including Tupou Tertiary Institute, Kolomotua Rugby Club and facilities, and Toa Ko Maʻafu Rugby Club. Their support reflects the collaborative approach required to create sustainable opportunities for players, coaches and officials.
The visit also provides an opportunity for FIT and Tonga Touch to strengthen relationships, better understand local priorities and identify practical areas where continued technical and development support can complement the work being led locally.
As Tonga Touch continues to strengthen its development pathway, regional competitions such as the Oceania Cup, alongside broader opportunities such as the Asia Pacific Opens Touch Cup, can provide valuable exposure and experience for players and officials. These opportunities can contribute to Tonga Touch’s longer-term aspirations, including building towards participation at the 2028 Touch World Cup.
FIT remains committed to working alongside Tonga Touch and its stakeholders to support local leadership, sustainable development and increased participation, while strengthening Tonga’s connection with the wider Oceania and international Touch community.
